Learning math can be difficult for some kids. Depending on the child, learning online can take this struggle to another level as online learning is not conducive to everyone. Keeps students engaged

Learning in a classroom is the ideal environment as it encourages students to interact with one another directly and promotes engagement. If learning in-person isn’t an option, being flexible and learning online is the best option. However, students can much more easily mentally check out of a lesson by playing with something off their camera or simply walking away.

While much of the responsibility to pay attention in class doesn’t fall on the teacher, it’s helpful if the teacher is still engaging with remote learning. Having the correct materials to teach is an important part of keeping young minds attentive to the task at hand, especially if it’s not directly in front of them.

Properly prepares for assessments

There are a variety of ways that you can help your students get ready for an assessment. In a classroom, you can run interactive lessons that are an excellent way for the class to study as a group. This becomes much more difficult as you move to online learning because it’s hard to encourage students to speak to one another if they’re not directly next to one another. With help from visuals and digital worksheets, you can work with your students to verify that they’re continuing to learn the course material and falling behind.

Be able to provide constructive feedback

Not all students like to participate in class, which is fine. Although, it’s not uncommon for students who don’t speak up in class to slowly start to fall behind the rest of the class because you have no way to see where they’re at. Digital workbooks and practice pages are a great way to evaluate a student’s learning to make sure they’re keeping up with the material. For instance, you can see that a student is continually falling behind if the work they’re doing on their practice is two or three steps behind what you’re currently learning. You can provide your students with constructive feedback about where they’re at so they can properly progress through the curriculum.

Maintain relationships and trust

There’s a certain amount of disconnect that you experience with online teaching. This can be anything from not really knowing who your students are to them not entirely trusting you because you don’t appear to be more than a person in a box. As your students begin to see success in learning math, you’ll begin to develop a relationship of trust with your students. This will go a long way to promoting effective remote learning habits.
